The recovery and proper management of nutrients is a critical element within the move towards sustainable agriculture, and it is now high on the societal agenda. Agriculture's dependency on fossil-based mineral fertilisers and loss in soil quality must be viewed as serious threats to food security. Lack of correct nutrient management also leads to the overuse of fertilizers and contamination of water sources, resulting in negative environmental consequences.

This event will enable PhD and postdocs working on relevant topics under Nutrient Recovery and Management to present their work, exchange with peers and seniors in the field, and find possible synergies with other groups within UGhent and Belgium. The following topics (non-exhaustive) will be covered:

-       Nutrient recovery technologies

-       Agronomic and environmental performance of bio-based fertilizers

-       Soil nutrient dynamics

-       Technologies for nutrient recovery and removal from nutrient-contaminated waters
